History of the Institute

ISC – Institut de Sciences Criminelles

Founded in 1951 on Dean Jean Carbonnier’s initiative, the Institute is a courses, resource and research centre specialised in the field of crime control. Courses are more specifically in criminal law and criminology.

Created in 1992, the EPRED is a research team in criminal science composed of 11 academics (5 professors and 6 senior lecturers), associates (sociologists, criminologists, physicians, psychologists), and Ph.D. students. Their work covers national, international and comparative criminal law and procedure. Around 50 theses are generally in progress. Between two and five are defended every year.
